Oak Park
Energy Benchmarking
The Village of Oak Park's Energy and Water Benchmarking Ordinance requires owners of commercial, multifamily, and public buildings greater than 10,000 square feet to annually track their energy and water use and report the results to the Village for public disclosure. This ordinance is a key part of the Village's plan to help building owners reduce utility costs and achieve carbon reduction goals.
All buildings over 10,000 square feet are required to submit their annual benchmarking report via ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager by December 31, 2025.
The Village of Oak Park also has a clear focus on education and technical assistance. While the ordinance does allow for fines for non-compliance, the Village is currently focused on helping building owners meet the requirements. This makes the initial benchmarking report your immediate, top priority to ensure compliance and avoid potential future penalties.
