General Benchmarking Services
There are more than 50 municipalities, counties, and states across the country who have enacted some variation of a building energy compliance ordinance. The goal is typically simple: to track energy consumption of the locale’s building stock and benchmark their performance against their peers to drive a market-based desire to improve energy efficiency and lower utility costs.
There are three general variations of these regulations:

We are approved benchmarking service providers in many cities, states, and regions, including (but not limited to):
Annual Reporting
We will gather energy and water (if required) data from your local utilities; upload data to EnergyStar Portfolio Manager; review property details; and report to the local government on your behalf.
Verification
We can provide third-party data verification services to fulfill a verification requirement. This can be performed in addition to the annual reporting requirement (if allowed by the local government), or as a standalone service if you have already gathered the data yourself. In many cases, we are listed on approved provider directories, or utilize our Professional Engineer license and Certified Energy Manager credentials to fulfill this requirement.

Do you want the process to be entirely hands off? We can facilitate the entire process A-Z. In cases where third party verification is required to be performed by a separate entity, we can subcontract that work to one of our partners.
Specialty Compliance Services
In special cases, your property may be exempt from the ordinance reporting requirements. We can review your case and provide an engineering opinion directly to the city’s benchmarking office to achieve an exemption status on your behalf.

Sheehan Engineering is an EnergyStar Partner. If this is your first time complying with a benchmarking ordinance and you don’t know where to start, we can develop the EnergyStar Portfolio Manager profile for your facility on your behalf. Once we’re finished, we transfer all ownership rights to you so that you have the flexibility to use the tool as you wish for your organization moving forward.
